TJ-CD-DN40 is a DN40 dirt separator with a removable magnetic ring. It combines gravitational separation of solid particles and magnetic capture of magnetite in one compact body. Designed for heating systems with DN40 pipework — boiler rooms, large private and small commercial buildings. Installed on the return pipe before the boiler, pump, or heat exchanger.

The heat-transfer fluid flow enters the enlarged separator chamber and slows sharply — velocity drops sufficiently for solid particles to lose their ability to remain in suspension and settle to the bottom of the gravity collector. Simultaneously, the magnetic ring around the body creates a field inside the chamber: magnetite particles (Fe₃O₄) are attracted to the walls and remain there. Accumulated sediment is discharged via the drain valve without stopping the system. The magnetic ring is removed for cleaning: pull it out, wipe off the black deposit, put it back.
The heat pump is the most vulnerable equipment in the system to magnetite contamination. An ordinary dirt separator without a magnet allows magnetite through the gravity chamber — and it settles in the HP plate heat exchanger. The TJ-CD-DN40 with its removable magnetic ring effectively captures magnetite and protects the heat exchanger from costly fouling and failure. If the system requires simultaneous air and dirt removal, consider the DN40 air and dirt separator (2-in-1). For replacement or purchase of an additional magnet — TJ-MAG magnet. All models in the Termojet separator catalogue.
Where exactly should the DN40 dirt separator be installed?
On the return pipe before the boiler or pump — where the heat-transfer fluid returns from the system. Dirt accumulated in the circuit passes through the separator and is retained in the chamber until draining. Installation after the boiler on the supply is less effective: in that position the separator protects neither the boiler nor the pump.
Is TJ-CD-DN40 compatible with glycol heat-transfer fluids?
Yes. Body materials and seals are compatible with glycol solutions used in heating systems and heat pumps.
