How to choose a three-way valve
A valve is selected by three parameters: the task (mixing, flow diverting or thermostatic mixing without an actuator), the connection diameter and the flow Kvs.
Three-way valve for underfloor heating
For an underfloor heating mixing circuit in a private house, a DN20 or DN25 rotary three-way mixing valve with an actuator is usually installed. On a signal from the controller, the actuator lowers the supply temperature to the level the screed requires. If you need a ready-made solution with a pump and valve in one unit, an underfloor heating mixing unit is a good fit.
Three-way valve for a boiler
A three-way mixing valve with an actuator is installed on the boiler circuit to supply the system with heat carrier at the required temperature. A zone valve switches the flow between heating and the DHW cylinder.
To protect the boiler from condensation corrosion, Termojet offers DN25 and DN32 four-way valves. They blend hot supply water into the return line, so cold water never returns to the boiler — this is how anti-condensation protection for solid fuel boilers is built.
Diameter and Kvs: model table
Kvs is the water flow through the valve in m³/h at a pressure drop of 1 bar. The more powerful the circuit, the higher the Kvs required; a Termojet engineer will make the exact calculation.
| Diameter | Thread | Kvs, m³/h | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| DN20 (¾") | male thread | 2.5 | UAH 1,342 |
| DN20 (¾") | female thread | 6.3 | UAH 1,482 |
| DN25 (1") | male thread | 6 | UAH 1,425 |
| DN25 (1") | female thread | 10 | UAH 1,776 |
| DN32 (1¼") | male thread | 12 | UAH 1,493 |
| DN32 (1¼") | female thread | 16 | UAH 2,483 |
| DN40 (1½") | male thread | 18 | UAH 2,354 |
| DN40 (1½") | female thread | 25 | UAH 5,224 |
| DN50 (2") | female thread | 40 | UAH 5,548 |
Three-way or four-way valve: which to choose
| Three-way mixing valve | Four-way mixing valve | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | mixes supply and return in a single circuit | mixes the circuit and blends hot supply into the boiler return |
| Where installed | radiator, underfloor heating and DHW circuits | next to the boiler, including a solid fuel boiler, for protection against condensation |
| Termojet diameters | DN20–DN50 | DN25, DN32 |
| Kvs, m³/h | 2.5–40 | 12, 18 |
| Actuator | 401N, 405N, 411, 413 | 401N, 405N, 411, 413 |
For a gas boiler or a heat pump, a three-way valve is enough. For a solid fuel boiler without separate anti-condensation protection, choose a four-way valve.
How to choose an actuator for a valve
All Termojet actuators 401N, 405N, 411 and 413 fit three-way and four-way rotary valves; 412N fits zone and control valves. They can be controlled by zone control thermostats and controllers.
| Model | Power supply | Control | Rotation time | When to choose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 401N | 230 V | 3-point | 120 s | mixing circuit with an external controller |
| 405N | 230 V | 3-point | 60 s | same, when a faster response is needed |
| 411 | 24 V | 0–10 V, proportional | 60 / 120 s | automation with an analog signal |
| 412N | 230 V | on/off, 2P+AUX | 60 s | zone valves, flow switching |
| 413 | 230 V | built-in controller and sensor, 5–90 °C | 120 s | constant temperature without a separate controller |
Questions about valves
Which three-way valve do I need for underfloor heating?+
For a private house, a DN20 or DN25 rotary mixing valve with an actuator is usually enough. If you need a turnkey solution with a pump, choose an underfloor heating mixing unit.
Which valve should I choose for a solid fuel boiler?+
A DN25 or DN32 four-way mixing valve. It blends hot supply water into the return line and protects the boiler from condensation corrosion.
How does a thermostatic valve differ from a mixing valve with an actuator?+
A thermostatic valve works without power: the built-in thermal element holds 20–43 °C or 35–60 °C at the outlet with ±2 °C accuracy — a solution for hot water and bathrooms. A mixing valve with an actuator is operated by a controller and regulates the temperature of the heating circuit.
Can an actuator be fitted to a Termojet valve?+
Yes. Actuators 401N, 405N, 411 and 413 fit three-way and four-way rotary valves, and 412N fits zone valves. Thermostatic valves do not need an actuator.
What is the difference between valves with female and male thread?+
The connection method and the flow capacity: at the same diameter, the female thread model has a higher Kvs. For example, a DN25 with male thread has Kvs 6, with female thread — Kvs 10.
Is delivery across Ukraine available?+
Yes. Termojet is own manufacturing since 2002. We deliver all over Ukraine. See the terms on the delivery and payment page.
