Titanium anode TI400 for stainless steel water heaters — an active MMO corrosion protection system for stainless steel tanks with a capacity of 200–500 l. A titanium rod with a catalytic coating of iridium and tantalum oxides (Ir–Ta MMO), paired with a PS type power supply, forms an electrochemical protective potential suited to the specifics of stainless steel surfaces. Connection G3/4", service life — over 10 years. The anode does not dissolve, leaves no sediment, and requires no maintenance whatsoever.

Stainless steel has its own passivating chromium oxide layer that protects the surface in a neutral environment. However, aggressive water containing chlorine, oxygen, and stray currents can destroy this layer and trigger pitting (localised) corrosion — the most dangerous type for stainless steel tanks, as it is invisible from the outside until a through-hole appears.
The PS power supply delivers a constant current of a specified magnitude through the Ir–Ta MMO rod into the water. This current maintains a protective cathodic potential on the stainless steel surface, suppressing pitting corrosion even in chlorinated or soft water. Unlike a sacrificial magnesium anode, the MMO rod does not degrade and requires no replacement.
Important: the PS power supply is calibrated specifically for the parameters of a stainless steel tank. For enamelled water heaters, a different version with a PE power supply unit is used — Titanium Anode TI400 for Enamelled Water Heaters.
A stainless steel water heater doesn't rust anyway — why does it need an anode?
Stainless steel is resistant to uniform corrosion but vulnerable to pitting — especially in water containing chlorine or when the passivating layer is disrupted during welding. Pitting can go unnoticed for years until a microcrack appears. The active TI400 anode maintains a cathodic potential that suppresses pitting — and significantly extends the actual service life of the water heater.
Can one TI400 anode be used for two water heaters?
No. One TI400 anode is designed to protect a single tank with a capacity of 200–500 l. Each water heater requires a separate anode with its own power supply. More suitable accessories are available in the Termojet additional equipment catalogue.
