The TI400 titanium anode is an active MMO anode for protecting enamelled (glass-lined) water heaters against corrosion. Unlike a classic magnesium sacrificial anode, the titanium rod with a catalytic coating of iridium and tantalum oxides (Ir–Ta MMO) does not dissolve in water but instead supplies electrons directly into the tank via the power supply unit. The result is continuous electrochemical protection with no sediment, no odour, and no annual replacement. Connection: G3/4", service life — over 10 years. Operating Principle

A sacrificial magnesium anode gradually dissolves, neutralising the corrosive environment, and needs replacing every 2–4 years. If not replaced in time, corrosion attacks the enamel and the steel body of the water heater. The TI400 titanium anode works on a fundamentally different principle: the PE-type power supply passes a weak direct current through the Ir–Ta MMO rod into the water. The electrochemical reaction protects the inner surface of the enamelled tank against corrosion without any dissolution of the anode material. The MMO coating is catalytically stable — the rod retains its properties throughout the service life of the water heater.

Important: the PE power supply is calibrated for the parameters of an enamelled vessel. For stainless-steel water heaters, a different anode version with a PS power supply is used — TI400 titanium anode for stainless-steel water heaters.

Applications

• Replacement of a worn magnesium anode. If you regularly notice a hydrogen sulphide smell ("rotten egg") or see sediment in the water heater — the anode is no longer protecting. The TI400 fits the same G3/4" port and requires no further maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the TI400 be installed in place of a magnesium anode without replacing the fitting?
Yes. Both anode types use the standard G3/4" connection. Remove the old magnesium anode with an SW 27 spanner, fit the TI400 with PTFE tape, and connect the PE power supply to a 220 V socket. Installation takes 10–15 minutes without draining the entire volume of the water heater.

Why does an enamelled water heater require specifically the PE power supply and not the PS?
Enamel and stainless steel have different electrochemical potentials and different levels of inherent protection. The PE unit supplies a current calculated for the protective potential of an enamel coating: sufficient for complete protection, without excessive current that could damage the enamel or accelerate hydrogen evolution.
