Wireless Zone Control System for Home Heating

Wireless zone control lets you keep a separate temperature in every room without laying cables — a solution for homes where the interior finishing is already done. We walk through the diagram and the equipment.

Wireless Zone Control System for Home Heating

Unlike the wired zone heating control system, the wireless system lets you set and maintain an individual temperature in different zones or rooms of the house without laying any cables.

Communication protocols: Zigbee and Wi-Fi

The system components are controlled remotely using two communication protocols: Zigbee and Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi is a well-known and popular wireless technology that lets devices connect to the internet via radio waves.

The Zigbee wireless protocol was designed specifically for automation devices, especially in smart home systems. It supports energy-efficient data exchange between devices, scales well and is resistant to interference.

When to choose a wireless system

The clear advantage of the wireless system is that it can be installed when upgrading the heating in a house where the interior finishing is already done and people are living.

Wireless zone control system diagram

A typical wireless zone control system looks like this:

Main components and their functions

  • EGW-100 — hub (central controller or gateway). The main device of the wireless system: it joins all components into a single network and acts as a «bridge» between wireless devices running on the Zigbee 868 MHz radio signal and your home Wi-Fi network.
  • TJ-03-RF — 8-zone wireless wiring centre. Controls the temperature in up to 8 zones and up to 16 actuators, as well as the circulation pump and the boiler, working with wireless room thermostats. One EGW-100 hub per TJ-03-RF.
  • WT-150 — wireless room thermostat. Precisely controls the temperature in its zone and sends control commands to the TJ-03-RF wireless wiring centre.
  • M30x1.5 actuators — provide smooth regulation of the heating water flow by operating the corresponding valves of the underfloor heating manifold.
  • Circulation pump — circulates the heating water; controlled by a ~230 V, 50 Hz electrical signal.
  • Boiler — the heat source; controlled via a volt-free contact.
  • R06 — Wi-Fi wireless receiver. Provides remote control of the boiler via a volt-free signal. Works with both protocols — Zigbee and Wi-Fi. Power supply — 230 V, 50 Hz.
  • Smartphone — remotely controls the wireless zone control system via the Smart Life app over Wi-Fi.

Key takeaways

  • A zoned heating control system cuts heat energy consumption by 15–35% because only the zones in use at the moment are heated.
  • Greater comfort for every occupant thanks to individual temperature control in different zones.
  • Full automation and remote control of all processes, which makes day-to-day operation very convenient.

Building a new house and able to lay cables? Compare it with the wired zone control system based on the TJ-03-C wiring centre and HT-120/HT-130 thermostats. All the equipment is in the Zone control section.
